Leading Privacy and Libel lawyer, Mark Lewis joins Patron Law as a partner and practice lead for Reputation Management and Media
London, 23 January, 2019 – The UK’s foremost media, libel and privacy lawyer Mark Lewis joins Patron Law to lead its Reputation Management and Media practice. Mark is known for his high profile work, starting the phone-hacking cases against the now defunct ‘News of The World’ and ‘The Mirror Group’ and negotiating the largest ever settlement of a phone hacking claim: £3 million for the Dowler family. He represents celebrities, private individuals and businesses and joins Patron Law from London based law firm Seddons, where he was also a partner.
Commenting on his role at Patron, Mark said: “I’m delighted to be joining Patron Law. Although based in Israel, modern technology means that I am seconds away for face to face meetings. I am as close to the High Court as when I lived in Manchester! Seeing things differently and taking time to solve problems is my way to practice law. I look to achieve what the client wants and to use the law to get that result rather than just follow what other people do.
He continued: “As a partner at Patron Law, my personal goals match those of the firm to make a difference for those we act for, whoever they are, whatever their problem. In my world, anyone can have a problem that needs sorting out. You don’t have to be a celebrity or a public figure to want or need to protect your reputation. I’m excited to be returning to my roots personally and professionally. I’m known for my experience and skillset in libel and privacy but at Patron Law I’ll be working across all types of commercial and corporate litigation again, which I’m greatly looking forward to.”
In his new role, Mark will lead the firm’s Reputation Management and Media practice which specialises in defamation, privacy, harassment and media agreements. Having led numerous high profile cases, Mark is tasked with growing the team and boosting the firm’s focus on reputation issues while growing its international work.
Mark has made his name building and running Privacy and Defamation practices. Among other high profile wins, Mark successfully brought and won Food Blogger, Jack Monroe’s libel case against Columnist Katie Hopkins for defamation on Twitter. More recently, he has been leading a high profile defamation case against Facebook on behalf of the founder of consumer website MoneySavingExpert.com, Martin Lewis.
Benjamin May, Managing Partner of Patron Law said: “The addition of Mark Lewis to our team adds strength and depth to our presence. There are very few lawyers anywhere in the world who can match Mark’s razor sharp reputation and experience in the field of media and privacy.
His decision to join us reflects the strength of the firm’s proposition in attracting corporate and private clients to the firm and its decision to expand its international client service capabilities in the Reputation and Media space.”
Headquartered in central London, Patron Law supports both private and commercial clients around the world looking to do business under English law.
